The Stations of the cross can be prayed at any time of the church year but they are mostly prayed during the season of lent. Lent lasts for 40 days and it is an important period in preparation for Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday which is also known as Maundy Thursday. The stations are often prayed  during holy week which is the last week of lent beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Holy Saturday.
